WREKIN SWIMMING CLUB
WOLVERHAMPTON SC SPRING OPEN MEET
Wolverhampton Central Baths - 18/19th March 2023
This was the first full weekend of competition since the County Champs. It was a great chance for our younger swimmers to see if they have improved on their performances since the Counties and they certainly didn't let the Club or themselves down.
Over the two long days of racing there were some fantastic Personal Best times from everyone. Swimmers weren't just knocking a couple of seconds off they were smashing them out of the water with 10-15 seconds being knocked off 200m events and several seconds being knocked off 100m events.
Congratulations to Charlie Scollard-Kerr in taking the Top Boy trohpy in his age group after some great swims.
Special mention to Charlie and Sam Good in gaining more West Midlands qualifying times for this year's regional champs.
A huge well done to all who attended the meet, winning medals and gaining new PB's. Keep up the great work in training.

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023
Central Baths, Wolverhampton
It has to be said this year's County Championships was unusual with no Ellesmere College attending, but it was good to see the medals being shared across all the Shropshire clubs.
Overall Wrekin Swim Club had a great championship, with all our swimmers gaining lots of medals, Personal Bests and West Midlands Qualifying times.
We had 12 swimmers finishing in the top three overall age groups.
Our older boys dominated the 16&over age group with some fantastic close finals, especially in the 50m & 100m Freestyle, where the boys took the top five places. Will Timmins and Elwyn Davies had some great head to head racing in these freestyle events while Oliver Greaves and Joe Ritson had some close battles in the distance events.
The 13 year old boys, Sam Good, Charlie Scollard-Kerr and Dylan Thompson had some great success winning lots of medals between them. And an amazing County record being broken by Sam Good in the 800m Free.
Our new younger boys Adam Rahati and Oliver Regan were competing for the first time at these County Champs, both swimming well and achieving gold medals in some of their events.
Our girls also had a successful Championships with Henrietta Chick dominating the 14 year old age groups by winning 17 out of 18 events and taking the Top Girl trophy.
Beth Barrett dominated the Freestyle events in the 15year age group, recording the fastest times in both the 50m & 100m Freestyle across all the female age groups.
In the 16 year old age group Lola Wheeler dominated the distance freestyle events from 200m to 1500m, taking gold in all four events.
New to the club, our younger girls Esmay Jones and Violet Edgerton had a successful competition in the 10/11 year old age group winning medals and gaining new Personal Best times.

WOLVERHAMPTON SC WINTER OPEN MEET - 26th & 27th November
Central Baths, Wolverhampton
This open meet was a good chance for most of our swimmers to either gain their 2023 County qualifying times for events they don't normally do or to just improve their times for next year.
Despite losing quite a few swimmers before and during the weekend to illness the team competing came away with plenty of PB's, podium places and many County qualifying times.
This event also saw one of our younger swimmers, Oliver Regan, competing in his first ever competition, he had a great meet and achieved his first ever County entry time in the 200Back by ten seconds.
All in all the competition was a successful one for the team, with some great swimming from all who attended.

WEST MIDLAND SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS - 5th & 6th November 2022
Alan Higgs Centre, Coventry
This event is part of the British Swimming Competition Pathway and is one of our target early season meets, This competition has only two age groups - 15 & under and 16 & over, making qualification for this event a tough one for the younger swimmers.
Wrekin had nine swimmers qualifying for the event, however due to losing three weeks of training from pool plant problems and illnesses the team's performance was definitely impacted by this.

BETH BARRETT
TIEGAN DUNNE
FRANCESCA DAVIES
LOLA WHEELER
OLIVER GREAVES
MASON CARTER
ELWYN DAVIES
JOE RITSON
Despite all the setbacks Team Wrekin did their best as always, with PB's, medals and plenty of early season race experience.
Elwyn Davies was on form at this event completely smashing the minute barrier for his 100Fly event gaining a new PB in a time of 59.04, he also gained a PB in the 50Fly.
Although Oliver Greaves was swimming slightly under par he achieved 3 bronze podium places in 200m & 400m Free and 400IM and a brilliant silver place in the 1500m Free in the 15&under age group, definitely a great start to the season for Oli where things can only get better.
Henrietta Chick gained 3 out of 3 PB's in the 50m & 100m Fly and 100IM. Fran Davies smashed her PB in the 100IM and Tiegan Dunne equalled her 50m Breast PB.
Lola Wheeler, Joe Ritson and Mason Carter all swam well and with no further interruptions to training will no doubt be back on form at the next competition.
Unfortunately Beth Barrett fell ill whilst travelling to the event on the Saturday and was unable to attend for the whole weekend.
Some great racing from the whole team attending, and we look forward to the next event at Wolverhampton on November 26th/27th

CHASE OPEN MEET - 1ST & 2ND OCTOBER 2022
Walsall Gala Baths, Walsall
Our new swimming season 2022-23 has finally kicked off with our first competition. This was a chance for our older swimmers to brush off the summer cobwebs, and for our younger ones, some race practice and to start the journey of gaining 2023 County qualifying times.
The event took place over two days, but with a lunch time start on the Saturday this gave cause for a very late finish and back again early Sunday morning for a full day. However this did not stop our swimmers from gaining some great times, medals, and trophies. It was good to see the team supporting all our new members too. Special mention to our new team members competing for Wrekin for the first time were - ALESSIO LUCAS, ADAM RAHATI, MOLLY FRANKLIN-HUGHES and SCARLETT BRITTEN. Wrekin also came away with a £50 win for being Top visiting club. Great start to the season for all, keep up the good work team.
